2025 - 2026

Brahms and His Circle
The spirit of Brahms hovers over Ronen’s first concert of the 2025-26 season, a program flanked by two of the German icon’s chamber masterpieces: the first violin sonata, in an arrangement for flute and piano, and the so-called “Werther” piano quartet, a tragic piece rooted in the composer’s youthful love for a married woman (any guesses?). The trio for oboe, horn, and piano by Brahms’s friend Heinrich von Herzogenberg, featuring Ronen co-artistic director Jennifer Christen, rounds out the evening.

Across the English Channel
The second program of the season explores the artistic interchange between two nations with a complex history. Two rarely heard gems for winds - Pierre Sancan’s delightful flute sonatina and Benjamin Britten’s early Tudor inspired oboe quartet - are balanced by Vaughan Williams warhorse “On Wenlock Edge.” Ronen welcomes tenor David Sadlier (“one of America’s leading dramatic tenors”- The Oxford Mail) for his debut with the Ensemble.

Brilliant Winds
To ring in the new year, Ronen welcomes Indianapolis native Natalie Debikey Scanio (flute and piccolo with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra) for a collection of duets with co-artistic director Alistair Howlett, including a selection of arias by J. S. Bach and Franz Doppler’s “Andante et Rondo.” Francis Poulenc’s extraordinary Sextet for winds and piano concludes the program.

Americana
The 250th anniversary of our nation is celebrated in the season finale, including two trios for flute, oboe, and piano by American composers: Alyssa Morris’s “Coastal Kaleidoscope” and a new Ronen commission from John Berners, professor of composition at the University of Indianapolis. Dvořák’s “American Quartet,” composed while he was living in the United States, concludes our tribute to the stars and stripes.
